Famicase 2016 Favorites

Greetings pals! This is my first official blog post with the new "format". I've decided to ditch the ... uh, aimless ramblings and art / knitting dumps and am going forward with a variety themed blog detailing things I am interested in, and maybe a few of my own projects interspersed. I like lots of things, and I am actually very much looking forward to this. My "goal" here, I reckon, is to highlight things I feel need a bit more exposure, and just to have some fucking fun doing it. Let's go! Akiramenai.

♥ Famicase 2016 ♥
I sadly did not participate in Famicase this year, however I do have some favorite entries, and this is the internet and Opinions Must Be Shared. There were some very nice designs and I actually had to limit myself to 20 to type about. I've decided to put them in alphabetical order, because I am terrible at numbered lists, however, I am a notorious list-maker. And list-forgetter, if we're talking about grocery ones ;-)

These screenshots at full size mess up the ol' blog layout here, so if you'd like to read the descriptions better I suggest you scoot on over to famicase to see them in their full glory! (link opens in a new window).
What can I say here ... simple, intriguing, looking at it feels "fun" to my eyeballs, like fireworks or sparkles. I really like this one.

I can feel my soul being dragged to hell when I glance at this, and by that I mean I am a sucker for intricate black metal logos :-) Beautiful, bellissima. Simple, yet horribly, gorgeously complicated, like my very own blackened soul.

Love the design of this one, wow. The color and texture choices are A+.

 DROID (Android Quest)
Absolutely lovely design. That LOGO, wow. SUPERB.

Family Sandwich '87
This one is just plain charming, dude. Yum, so cute! I love the brown cartridge choice, and that this version of the game has Reubens :-D

The simplicity of this is gorgeous and bold, really digging the Koland logo too. I imagine that if I were a child and saw this cartridge, I'd want to play it based on the cover alone (though that is probably true of most of these!). You may have gathered by now that I am a total sucker for simple design.

Il Gran Discorso VATNOU
I am terrible at puzzle games, but the amount of fun I'm having just looking at this probably makes up for it. Bravo, beautiful work!

Jeez louise, this sure looks happy, and nostalgically familiar. BoyGraphics killin' it as per usual!

kamakiri treasure hunt
The colors and characters are so pleasing! I want to play this. Or watch someone play it, because I am terrible at games. Treasure is always intriguing, as is solid design. The character's eyes are drawing our own to that hefty treasure. Let me open itttttttt I want the goldddddd.

Lucky Fishing
In every game I've played with a fishing mini game, I've loved fishing. Maybe this isn't always true (Pokemon ... legitimate anger rising), but this label has got me "hooked" already! AAAAHHhh I'm sorry. Or am I? Yes, sorry for being cheeky. I did it for the Halibut.

Monster Factory Balal
The vintage-y label, cute Kitaro-esque characters, and lightning yellow cartridge (it contrasts so perfectly with the label colors!) totally sold me. Absolutely love this one.
° ° ° ° °

Honestly, this one just plain cracks me up. Super cute and ridiculous, I love it. "Yes!", screams Harry. One million points to Gryffindor.

This one is scaring my butt off. The description is terrifying. I feel that my house would become haunted if I owned it. Please haunt my house all the way from the bleak future, game.

STRUNG OUT in heaven's high
Great colors, great design, great cartridge choice. I love the concept, the desperation, the space madness.

Tenori Yuusha
From what I can tell, this is a game about controlling a giant robot via a palm-sized hero. Save the day, carve the mountains. I am so sad this isn't a real game (yet). Google translate offered a bit of exciting and brave insight. A Game By Its Cover, I implore thee.

The Hinterlands
Beautiful work! Hits all the right notes, graphically speaking. Mention of The Hinterlands usually evokes visions of badly-designed pre-Burning Crusade blood elves, Jintha'alor, fighting about 1000 turtles for quest drops, owlbeasts, gryphons .. I do apologize, the vanilla WoW nostalgia is REAL within me. The description of this game however, sounds bleak and terrifying, and I want to play it. I want to read it (a novelization will be required, unless this is a text adventure!!).

The House On The Left
Super super cute. I will not survive, but this is just adorable .. please haunt me you cuties.
° ° ° ° °

Whoever this world belongs to, I want to be a part of it. Great design, yowza!
° ° ° ° °

Holy cow! From what I can tell, this is a puzzle game about untangling dreads. I am not sure about the accuracy of the goofy google translate, but MAN. Funny stuff. His face! His dreads also kinda resemble long turds, horrifying! Beautiful bizarre.
° ° ° ° °

Again, the translation is iffy, but from what I gather ... roughly, this is a game about being a plant and surviving. I just really like the design :-D

Dungeon of Flowers
Did anyone think I'd be able to post about this topic without talking about Jeremy's entry? No, you saw this coming. Jeremy rulz, and this cartridge color is making me googy. That's right, GOOGY. The handwritten font here is superb, and the hero design is some of his best work. The skeleton brings me so much joy, too. Great work, my dude. :-)

Thanks for all your hard work Meteor and entrants, what a huge task.

More to come soon!
